PRAYER GUIDE
ISAIAH 51:15-16 (NKJV)
15But I am the Lord your God,
Who divided the sea whose waves roared—
The Lord of hosts is His name.
16And I have put My words in your mouth; [Emphasis Added]
I have covered you with the shadow of My hand,
That I may plant the heavens,
Lay the foundations of the earth, [Emphasis Added]
And say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’”
JEREMIAH 1:9,10 (ESV)
Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me,
“Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.
See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms,
to pluck up and to break down,
to destroy and to overthrow,
to build and to plant.”
GUIDING TEXT FOR THE FASTING SEASON
ISAIAH 32:1-8
1Behold, a king will reign in righteousness,
And princes will rule with justice.
2A man will be as a hiding place from the wind,
And a cover from the tempest,
As rivers of water in a dry place,
As the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
3The eyes of those who see will not be dim,
And the ears of those who hear will listen.
4Also the heart of the rash will understand knowledge,
And the tongue of the stammerers will be ready to speak plainly.
5The foolish person will no longer be called generous,
Nor the miser said to be bountiful;
6For the foolish person will speak foolishness,
And his heart will work iniquity:
To practice ungodliness,
To utter error against the Lord,
To keep the hungry unsatisfied,
And he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
7Also the schemes of the schemer are evil;
He devises wicked plans
To destroy the poor with lying words,
Even when the needy speaks justice.
8But a generous man devises generous things,
And by generosity he shall stand.

PHARMACEUTICALS AND HERBALS
The scriptures indicate that God made provision for the healing of mankind in the plants and herbs He created. This is stated in both the first and last books of the Bible. A number of verses in the Bible speak of medicine in a positive light. The first use of the word medicine in the Bible is in Proverbs 17:22, “A joyful heart is good medicine…” So there is good medicine. However, like all creation was corrupted at the fall of man, there is also a dark side to the use and practice of medicines.
The English word ‘pharmacy’ is derived from a group of Greek words used to describe pagans who used potions to encourage hallucinations in those who wanted to contact the spirit world. In the New Testament the root word pharmekeia appears thrice (Galatians 5:19-21, Revelation 9:21; 18:23). It is translated as ‘sorcery’ or ‘magic’. In addition to death from addictive drugs, there are reports from credible medical sources that a large number of people die every year from taking medication. Sometimes the treatment is more dangerous than the disease. There have also been reports of insurance companies paying doctors bonuses based on the percentages of children fully vaccinated by a certain age. Why would they have to do this? Further, the practice of modern medicine is heavily controlled by the wealthy multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical industry that often pushes for vaccinations even when they are not very effective, instead of cures which can be cheaper but are non profitable to their businesses. (This is because vaccinations are taken by much larger numbers and therefore generate more profit).
The use of herbs was fairly developed in traditional African societies before the advent of western medicine. It was however closely linked with the practice of witchcraft. With the embracing of Christianity ‘the baby was thrown out with the water’. The use of local herbs needs to be redeemed if our population is to achieve health for all. There is also urgent need for the development of research into the abundant plant life and biodiversity that our country is so richly blessed with. This will require a mindset shift regarding attitudes to medicines and herbs.
SCRIPTURES FOR PRAYER AND PROCLAMATION
GENESIS 1:29-31
And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
ISAIAH 38:21
Now Isaiah had said, “Let them take a cake of figs and apply it to the boil, that he may recover.”
JEREMIAH 8:22
Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?
Why then has the health of the daughter of my people not been restored?
JEREMIAH 46:11
Go up to Gilead, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt!
In vain you have used many medicines; there is no healing for you.
EZEKIEL 17:12
And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.”
JOHN 9:6,7
Having said these things, he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man’s eyes with the mud and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.
REVELATION 3:18
I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.
REVELATION 22:2
Through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
WORSHIP JEHOVAH RAPHA, OUR HEALER
Worship and praise God who has given us so much in nature for our health and wellbeing.
THANKSGIVING
- Thank God for the different pharmaceutical companies that are now manufacturing essential drugs in the country.
- Thank God for the growing number of registered organizations in the herbal industry in Uganda.
- Thank God for those effectively using local herbs for treating ailments in the country.
PROCLAMATIONS ON PHARMACEUTICALS AND HERBS
God is raising leaders who will champion the development and proper use of medicines and herbs in Uganda. They will redeem the use of herbs, which God gave mankind, from the hands of those who have corrupted them through the practice of witchcraft and sorcery. They will champion indigenous research into the abundant botanical life that our country is blessed with and will redeem the knowledge of plants that our forefathers had.
Through their leadership, our communities will get enlightened to God’s provision for healing through what is locally available in our country. Our populations will become healthier as they practice good lifestyle and dietary habits.
Families will once again grow plants in their backyards as a source of healing in their homes. Both the pharmaceutical and herbal industries will flourish as individuals and companies develop healing products for humans, animal and plants for national consumption and export.
The blindness that has been over the eyes of medical and pharmaceutical practitioners in the country will be lifted. Our country will be delivered from the stranglehold of Big Pharmaceutical companies.
