PRAYER GUIDE
ISAIAH 51:15-16 (NKJV)
15But I am the Lord your God,
Who divided the sea whose waves roared—
The Lord of hosts is His name.
16And I have put My words in your mouth; [Emphasis Added]
I have covered you with the shadow of My hand,
That I may plant the heavens,
Lay the foundations of the earth, [Emphasis Added]
And say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’”
JEREMIAH 1:9,10 (ESV)
Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me,
“Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.
See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms,
to pluck up and to break down,
to destroy and to overthrow,
to build and to plant.”
EZEKIEL 37: 3-5, 7, 9, 10
And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, [Emphasis Added] O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live….
So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, [Emphasis Added] and behold, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone…
Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, [Emphasis Added] Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on
these slain, that they may live.” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, [Emphasis Added] and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.
MARK 11:13-14
And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he
came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. And he said to it, [Emphasis Added] “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it. [Emphasis Added]
MARK 11:22-24
And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, [Emphasis Added] whoever says to this mountain, [Emphasis Added] Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says [Emphasis Added] will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, [Emphasis Added] believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
GUIDING TEXT FOR THE FASTING SEASON
ISAIAH 32:1-8
1Behold, a king will reign in righteousness,
And princes will rule with justice.
2A man will be as a hiding place from the wind,
And a cover from the tempest,
As rivers of water in a dry place,
As the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
3The eyes of those who see will not be dim,
And the ears of those who hear will listen.
4Also the heart of the rash will understand knowledge,
And the tongue of the stammerers will be ready to speak plainly.
5The foolish person will no longer be called generous,
Nor the miser said to be bountiful;
6For the foolish person will speak foolishness,
And his heart will work iniquity:
To practice ungodliness,
To utter error against the Lord,
To keep the hungry unsatisfied,
And he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
7Also the schemes of the schemer are evil;
He devises wicked plans
To destroy the poor with lying words,
Even when the needy speaks justice.
8But a generous man devises generous things,
And by generosity he shall stand.

ENERGY
The Sun is the primary source of energy for the earth. The sun’s surface temperature is around 5,500 degrees Celsius. The temperature of the earth’s core is 13,600,000 degrees Celsius generated by nuclear fusion (combining hydrogen nuclei into helium). The sun’s diameter is 1,392,000 kilometres making it 110 times wider than the earth. It is made up of hydrogen (74%) and helium (24%), and the rest by heavier elements such as oxygen, carbon, iron and neon. Though the sun is positioned 150 million kilometres way from the earth, its gravitational pull holds the planet in orbit and its light reaches earth in around 8 minutes. In just 15 minutes, the sun radiates as much energy as people use in all forms in an entire year.
The sun is the original energy source for coal, natural gas, water and wind. Sunlight is a clean, renewable source of energy. It is a sustainable resource, meaning it doesn’t run out. It radiates light and heat, or solar energy, which makes it possible for life to exist on earth. Without sunlight, plants cannot grow. Animals, including humans, need plants for food and the oxygen they produce. Without heat from the sun, the earth would freeze. There would be no winds, ocean currents, or clouds to transport water.
A lightening bolt is electricity. It races toward earth at about 322,000 km/h and has enough power in one bolt to light up a house for 30 years. At key moments in Israel’s history, God has appeared in the midst of lightning or hurled it to earth to prove that He is Master of the universe.
The Hebrew word chashmal is translated as gemstone amber (it is has a fiery red color as well as green, yellow, black, or a rare blue). The Prophet Ezekiel used chashmal as he described God’s form as bright, glowing amber. Like many men of old who had no words to describe phenomena they were seeing ahead of their time, he may well have been describing electricity as he described what he saw in Ezekiel 1:26-28. Similarly in Apostle John’s vision of God in the Book of Revelation, he sees God in the midst of “flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder”.
Uganda is richly endowed with abundant energy resources including hydropower, biomass, solar, geothermal, wind, peat and fossil fuels. The energy resource potential is estimated at 2,000 MW from hydropower, 450 MW from geothermal sources, 1,650 MW out of biomass cogeneration. There is potential from 460 million tons of biomass standing stock with a sustainable annual yield of 50 million tons, an average of 5.1 kWh/m2 of solar energy, and about 250 million tons of peat (800 MW). Uganda’s overall renewable energy power generation potential is estimated at 5,300 MW.
The line ministry for the energy sector is the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD). The Ministry oversees implementation of government policy on energy. The electricity sector is regulated by the Electricity Regulatory Authority and is split up into Generation, Transmission and Distribution. The total installed capacity is 1,360MW with a peak consumption of 660MW. Two thirds (about 66%) of the electricity consumption is industrial, while domestic consumption is at about 22% and commercial consumption is at about 13%.
Uganda has one of the lowest electricity consumptions per capita in the world at 100kWh per capita. National electrification is at 26%. Meaning that only a quarter of households in Uganda have access to on-grid and off-grid electricity. Biomass accounts for 94% of the energy consumption in Uganda. 85% of households in the country use firewood and 13% of the
households use charcoal as the fuel for cooking. This is having an adverse effect on the environment.
SCRIPTURES FOR PRAYER AND PROCLAMATION
GENESIS 1:3
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
GENESIS 1:14-18
And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
EXODUS 9:23-25
Then Moses stretched out his staff toward heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down to the earth. And the Lord rained hail upon the land of Egypt. There was hail and fire flashing continually in the midst of the hail, very heavy hail, such as had never been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. The hail struck down everything that was in the field in all the land of Egypt, both man and beast. And the hail struck down every plant of the field and broke every tree of the field.
EXODUS 19:16-18
On the morning of the third day there were thunders and lightnings and a thick cloud on the
mountain and a very loud trumpet blast, so that all the people in the camp trembled. Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet God, and they took their stand at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was wrapped in smoke because the Lord had descended on it in fire. The smoke of it went up like the smoke of a kiln, and the whole mountain trembled greatly.
EXODUS 20:18
Now when all the people saw the thunder and the flashes of lightning and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking, the people were afraid and trembled, and they stood far off
JOB 36:30-33
Behold, he scatters his lightning about him and covers the roots of the sea.
For by these he judges peoples; he gives food in abundance.
He covers his hands with the lightning and commands it to strike the mark.
Its crashing declares his presence; the cattle also declare that he rises.
PSALM 144:5,6
Bow your heavens, O Lord, and come down! Touch the mountains so that they smoke!
Flash forth the lightning and scatter them; send out your arrows and rout them!
PSALM 97:4
His lightnings light up the world; the earth sees and trembles.
MATTHEW 28:2, 3
And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.
EZEKIEL 1:4
As I looked, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, and a great cloud, with brightness around it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, as it were gleaming metal
EZEKIEL 1:13, 14
As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, like the appearance of torches moving to and fro among the living creatures. And the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. And the living creatures darted to and fro, like the appearance of a flash of lightning.
EZEKIEL 1:26-28
And above the expanse over their heads there was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like sapphire; and seated above the likeness of a throne was a likeness with a human appearance. And upward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were gleaming metal, like the appearance of fire enclosed all around. And downward from what had the appearance of his waist I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and there was brightness around him. Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around.
Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell on my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking.
REVELATION 4:5
From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the
throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God.
WORSHIP GOD THE CREATOR OF THE SUN AND SOURCE OF ALL ENERGY
Psalm 50: 1
The Mighty One, God the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its
setting. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.
THANK GOD FOR:
