Without water there wouldn’t be life on earth. All plants and animals must have water to survive. Uses of water and water bodies are diverse including drinking, cooking, washing, farming, fishing, industry, tourism, recreation and transport. Proper function of our lakes and rivers help to ease the impact of floods and droughts by storing large amounts of water and releasing it during shortages. Lakes also replenish groundwater and preserve biodiversity. It is our responsibility to practice stewardship of our water bodies by keeping them healthy for present and future generations.<\/p>\n Uganda has been called a land of lakes because nearly 20% of its surface is covered by fresh water or swamps. Almost half of the second largest fresh water lake in the world \u2013 Lake Victoria \u2013 lies in Uganda and so do three other great East African lakes: Lake Albert, Lake Kyoga, Lake Edward, and Lake George. When the crater lakes and smaller lakes are counted in, Uganda has 165 lakes, most of which are serviced by rivers and streams. The longest river in the world, the Nile, begins its 6,650 km northward journey to the Mediterranean Sea from southern part of Uganda.<\/p>\n The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) is the Government ministry that oversees water management. It was established in 2007 from the then Ministry of Water, Lands and Environment. It has the overall responsibility of the development, managing, and regulating water and environment resources in Uganda. In 1995, Uganda made history as the second country worldwide, after Canada, to pass a wetlands policy.<\/p>\n SCRIPTURES FOR PRAYER AND PROCLAMATION<\/strong><\/h4>\n GENESIS 1:1, 2 \n<\/strong>In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of<\/strong> the waters.<\/strong><\/p>\n GENESIS 1: 9 \n<\/strong>And God said, \u201cLet the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.\u201d And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered<\/strong> together he called Seas. A<\/strong>nd God saw that it was good.<\/p>\n GENESIS 1:20-22 \n<\/strong>And God said, \u201cLet the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures,<\/strong> and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.\u201d So God created the great sea creatures and every<\/strong> living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, <\/strong>and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, \u201cBe fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas<\/strong>, and let birds multiply on the earth.\u201d<\/p>\n PSALM 24:1,2 \n<\/strong>The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, \nfor he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.<\/strong><\/p>\n JEREMIAH 31:35 \n<\/strong>Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for light by day \nand the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, \nwho stirs up the sea so that its waves roar\u2014 <\/strong>the Lord of hosts is his name\u2026<\/p>\n JEREMIAH 5:22 \n<\/strong>Do you not fear me? declares the Lord. Do you not tremble before me? \n<\/strong>I placed the sand as the boundary for the sea, a perpetual barrier that it cannot pass; though the waves toss, they cannot prevail; though they roar, they cannot pass over it.<\/p>\n PSALM 104:24-26 \n<\/strong>O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; \nthe earth is full of your creatures. Here is the sea, great and wide, \nwhich teems with creatures innumerable, living things both small and great. \nThere go the ships, <\/strong>and Leviathan, which you formed to play in it.<\/p>\n PSALM 107:23 \n<\/strong>Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n PSALM 65:9, 10 \n<\/strong>You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it; \nthe river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, \nfor so you have prepared it. You water its furrows abundantly, \nsettling its ridges, softening it with showers, and blessing its growth.<\/p>\n ISAIAH 27:1 \n<\/strong>In that day the Lord with his hard and great and strong sword will punish Leviathan the fleeing \n<\/strong>serpent, Leviathan the twisting serpent, and he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.<\/strong><\/p>\n WORSHIP GOD THE MAKER OF THE RIVERS, LAKES AND OCEANS<\/strong><\/h4>\n PSALM 95:1-5 \n<\/strong>Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! \nLet us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of \npraise! \nFor the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. \nIn his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. \nThe sea is his, for he made it, <\/strong>and his hands formed the dry land.<\/p>\n THANK GOD FOR:<\/strong><\/h4>\n \n Give thanks and appreciate God for the abundant water resources He has given to Uganda as our inheritance which covers almost 20% of Uganda\u2019s total area comprising big lakes like Victoria, Kyoga, Albert, George and Edward, and, Rivers Nile, Katonga, Semiliki, Aswa, and Malaba among others. There are also swamps and wetlands.<\/li>\n Two rainy seasons in a year that water our land and replenish the water bodies.<\/li>\n The second largest freshwater body in the world – Lake Victoria and the River Nile, the longest river in the world that commences its northward journey from Uganda. God has called us to water the nations.<\/li>\n The beautiful weather and climate we have as a result of the abundant natural vegetation and many rivers, springs and lakes.<\/li>\n The underground water source in many parts of Uganda that enables communities to access water through natural springs and through the drilling of boreholes.<\/li>\n For the innovation of rainwater harvesting that enables water stressed communities to harness nature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n PROCLAMATION FOR WATER MANAGEMENT<\/strong><\/h4>\n A declaration of what we are praying for<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n God is raising leaders at all levels in Uganda that will handle water management matters with \n<\/em>righteous and justice.<\/em><\/p>\n The idolatry linked to our water bodies will be overthrown.<\/em><\/p>\n There will be good responsible management of the sector with effective planning and coordination \n<\/em>for present and future generations.<\/em><\/p>\n Polices will be formulated and robustly enforced that will set standards, provide for inspections and \n<\/em>technical support leading to the efficient utilization of our water bodies.<\/em><\/p>\n Our water bodies will be sustainably utilized for the socio-economic development of the country. Uganda\u2019s abundant water supply will be well utilized for agriculture, fishing, industry, trade, transportation, recreation and tourism.<\/em><\/p>\n Both urban and rural areas will be provided with safe water supply and sanitation systems.<\/em><\/p>\n Quality water will be available in abundance in small towns, large towns, municipalities and cities.
