Travel<\/strong> includes all activities that help consumers reach destinations with different modes of travelling – cars, buses, boats, trains, planes, motorbikes, etc. Tourism usually refers to travelling for pleasure and visiting places of interest such as national parks, museums, art galleries, theatres, etc. With this in mind, it can be said that all tourists are travelers but not all travelers are<\/em> tourists<\/em>. The tourism industry includes all firms that provide goods or services to facilitate business or leisure activities away from home environment. Hospitality has to do with taking care of guests or visitors and therefore includes all businesses that provide accommodation, food and beverages services and meeting facilities to the tourists, travelers and local residents. Due to the intricate link between travel, tourism and hospitality, one affects one usually affects the others.<\/p>\n The Benedictine monks hospitality laid the foundations of the modern hospital and hotel industry in the dark ages Europe. St. Benedict established the rule of monastic life that was later to be adopted by most Western monasteries. His guiding principal was that all guests were to be received as one would receive Christ. Their monasteries were always a welcome sight to the late traveller because food and accommodation was available there.<\/p>\n Genesis 18 tells the story of Abraham and Sarah\u2019s generous hospitality to three visitors who were passing by their residence to them by the oaks of Mamre. In those days there was no formal industry of hospitality and so people living in cities and is told in. Seminomadic life in the country would often bring people from different families into contact with one another, and the character of Canaan as a natural land bridge between Asia and Africa made it a popular trade route. In the absence of a formal industry of hospitality, people living in cities and campsites had a social obligation to welcome strangers.<\/p>\n In Abraham and Sarah\u2019s time, hospitality was almost always offered in the host\u2019s home. Today, the hosting of complete strangers in homes is less common though it is been popularized the airbnb business. The hospitality industry has come into being to facilitate and offer hospitality in a wide variety of ways. The hospitality industry accounts for 9 percent of the world gross domestic product and employs 98 million people. The example of Abraham and Sarah shows that this work can be profoundly important as a service to God and humanity.<\/p>\n The Greek word translated hospitality<\/em> occurs six times in the New Testament. The word is taken from two Greek words to make one word. They are the words philo<\/em> meaning love and xenia<\/em> meaning strangers. Hospitality is a love of strangers. It is what we extend to outsiders, strangers, and those in physical and spiritual need.<\/p>\n Statistics from the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development indicate that Uganda\u2019s tourism sector contributed 7.7 per cent to GDP and $1.6b to Uganda\u2019s export earnings, creating 667,600 jobs in the 2018\/19 financial year. A 10% growth projection made for the last financial year did not happen. Hotels, tour companies and wildlife protected areas have all experienced massive dips in revenue. Uganda gets most of its tourists from Germany, Switzerland, North America and Canada. Emerging markets for the tourism sector are China, Japan, UAE, and France.<\/p>\n The line ministry that oversees the sector is the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities commonly referred to as Ministry of Tourism. Its mission is to develop and promote the tourism, wildlife and heritage resources for enhancement of Uganda as a competitive and preferred tourist destination, with accelerated sector contribution to GDP.<\/p>\n The Ministry has five affiliated institutions through which its mission is achieved:<\/p>\n \n Uganda Tourism Board (UTB)<\/li>\n Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA)<\/li>\n Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Center (UWCEC)<\/li>\n Uganda Wildlife Research and Training Institute (UWRTI) and<\/li>\n Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n Information from Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) indicates that in the financial year 2018\/2019, tourism arrivals grew by 7.4% from 1.402 million in 2017 to 1.505 million. The foreign exchange earnings also grew by 10.1% per cent from $1.45 billion in 2017 to $1.6 billion according to the 2018\/2019-sector performance report. The sector has been heavily impacted by local and international travel restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic<\/p>\n In 2017 the global community network (Inter-Nations) conducted their annual Expat Insider survey of more than 14,000 expats from 191 countries and named Uganda as the friendliest country globally. The friendliness is determined by how expatriates are welcomed or received and this has helped to integrate expatriates into the Ugandan community. Uganda is also the largest refugee-hosting country in Africa, with over a million refugees.<\/p>\n SCRIPTURES FOR PRAYER AND PROCLAMATION<\/strong><\/h4>\n GENESIS 18:1-8 \n<\/strong>And the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth and said, \u201cO Lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant. Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree, while I bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on\u2014since you have come to your \nservant.\u201d So they said, \u201cDo as you have said.\u201d And Abraham went quickly into the tent to Sarah and said, \u201cQuick! Three seahs of fine flour! Knead it, and make cakes.\u201d And Abraham ran to the herd and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to a young man, who prepared it quickly. Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them. And he stood by them under the tree while they ate.<\/p>\n GENESIS 19:1-38 \n<\/strong>The two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them and bowed himself with his face to the earth and said, \u201cMy lords, please turn aside to your servant’s house and spend the night and wash your feet. Then you may rise up early and go on your way.\u201d They said, \u201cNo; we will spend the night in the town square.\u201d But he pressed them strongly; so they turned aside to him and entered his house. And he made them a feast and baked unleavened bread, and they ate\u2026.<\/p>\n 2 CHRONICLES 9:1, 12 \n<\/strong>Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to Jerusalem<\/strong> to test him with hard questions, having a very great retinue and camels bearing spices and very much gold and precious stones. And when she came to Solomon, she told him all that was on her mind\u2026 \nAnd King Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all that she desired, whatever she asked besides what she had brought to the king. So she turned and went back to her own land with her<\/strong> servants.<\/strong><\/p>\n LEVITICUS 19:33, 34 \n<\/strong>\u201cWhen a stranger sojourns with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong. You shall treat the stranger who sojourns with you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.<\/p>\n EXODUS 23:9 \n<\/strong>\u201cYou shall not oppress a sojourner. You know the heart of a sojourner, for you were sojourners in \nthe land of Egypt.<\/p>\n EXODUS 22:21 \n<\/strong>\u201cYou shall not wrong a sojourner or oppress him, for you were sojourners in the land of Egypt.<\/p>\n 2 KINGS 4:8-17 \n<\/strong>One day Elisha went on to Shunem, where a wealthy woman lived, who urged him to eat some food. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some \n<\/strong>have entertained angels unawares.<\/strong><\/p>\n 1 PETER 4:9 \n<\/strong>Show hospitality <\/strong>to one another without grumbling.<\/p>\n ROMANS 12:13 \n<\/strong>Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.<\/strong><\/p>\n TITUS 1:8 \n<\/strong>But hospitable, <\/strong>a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined\u2026<\/p>\n ACTS 28:2 \n<\/strong>The native people showed us unusual kindness<\/strong>, for they kindled a fire and welcomed us all, \nbecause it had begun to rain and was cold.<\/p>\n WORSHIP GOD THE CREATOR OF BEAUTY AND NATURE AND THE WELCOMER OF ALL WHO COME TO HIM.<\/strong><\/h4>\n THANK GOD FOR:<\/strong><\/h4>\n \n The leadership at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.<\/li>\n The variety of wildlife species, Uganda\u2019s spectular waterfalls, wetlands, rain forests, as well as our rich culture, food and heritage that attracts tourists from all over the world.<\/li>\n Uganda Wildlife Authority which conserves our biodiversity that attracts foreign tourists, and Uganda Tourism Board that markets our tourist attractions<\/li>\n The tourism sector that was ranked the highest foreign exchange earning sector in the Country in the FY 2018\/2019.<\/li>\n Our hospitable culture that led to Uganda being named the Friendliest Country in the Globe by a Survey conducted by the Global Community Network Expat Insider Survey.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n PROCLAMATION FOR THE TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY SECTOR<\/strong><\/h4>\n A Declaration Of What We Are Praying For And What We See As God Answers Prayer<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n God is raising leaders at all levels in the travel, tourism and hospitality industries that will govern and steward the sector in righteous and justice. Domestic tourism will thrive as Ugandans learn to visit and enjoy other parts of their own country.<\/em><\/p>\n People will travel to and throughout Uganda for rest, events, sports and leisure.
